About Run the Household
One dad, two small kids, a Berlin apartment, and a lot of trial and error.
Who writes this
I'm Felix. A dad of two in Berlin. Both kids are under six, so I'm deep in the early years: newborn nights, toddler negotiations, Kita drop-offs.
By day I teach English and history at a secondary school. Grading essays and herding teenagers turns out to be decent training for the early years: same negotiations, fewer sticker charts. I bring the same habits home that I use in the classroom: keep it simple, repeat what works, write it down. The blog is that notebook.
I write under a pen name so the kids' stories stay their own. No names, no school, no street. What stays real is everything you can check: the routines, the prices, the meltdown counts.
I'm not a parenting expert. No degrees in child development, no letters after my name. Just a dad who writes things down. When something here touches health or safety, it says so, and it points you to the people actually qualified to advise.
How we test things (the editorial method)
Everything on this site follows the same rule: it happened in our house, or it doesn't get published. No invented anecdotes, no borrowed stories, no "a friend of a friend" gear reviews.
Gear is bought with our own money, at the same price you'd pay. We run it for weeks or months before writing about it, and the flops are documented as honestly as the wins. When we share numbers, they're ours: prices we paid, hours we logged, meltdowns we counted. Not statistics, just our family.
The site has no ads and no affiliate links, and there is a disclosure page that says exactly that. If that ever changes, the disclosure updates first.
Why this blog exists
Parenting advice is loud. Everyone has an opinion, and a lot of it comes from people who have never scrubbed oatmeal off a ceiling.
I wanted one place with answers that held up in our house. So I started writing them down. This blog is that notebook, cleaned up and published.
What you'll find here
Practical, first-person posts about the early years. Gear that earns its place. Dinners that survive toddlers. Activities that need zero prep. And the days that fall apart anyway.
What you won't find here
No expert posturing. No perfect-parent stories. No invented anecdotes. If it didn't happen in this house, it doesn't get published.
When we share numbers, they're ours: prices we paid, hours we logged, meltdowns we counted. Not statistics, just our family.
The Bottom Line
- One dad, two kids under six, writing from a Berlin apartment.
- Written under a pen name, so the kids' stories stay their own.
- Everything here is first-person and based on what we actually did.
- No newsletter, no follow buttons. The RSS feed is the whole deal.
- Read what helps. Skip the rest.
